Recent Budget Changes to IHT Relief

From 6 April 2026, significant changes will affect Inheritance Tax (IHT) reliefs:

  • Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR) will be limited to 100% relief on the first £1 million of combined qualifying assets
  • Assets exceeding £1 million will receive 50% relief
  • Alternative Investment Market (AIM) shares relief will be reduced to 50%
  • From April 6, 2027, most unused pension funds will become subject to IHT

Payment Terms for Additional IHT

Any additional IHT arising from the changes to Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR) can be paid over a 10-year period with no interest charges.
